Military camp site (1795-c.1798)
Large encampment set up on Church land at Lehaunstown to defend Killiney Bay against a French landing: tents, then wooden huts on two ridges between Tully church and the Loughlinstown River, for c. 4,000 men (Ferrar, 1796). Opening date given as 1 June 1795 (Rathmichael Historical Record 1975) or 1794 (excavation report). Excavation has found middens and a camp kitchen. An earlier camp of James II's army in 1690 is recorded nearby.
