Puck's Castle (Caisleán an Phúca)
Fortified house / tower (ruin)
Small oblong fortified house with a bawn on bleak pasture commanding a pass ('Barnaderg') from Wicklow, 600 m SSW of Rathmichael church. Ball suggests it was built by Peter Talbot following a 1537 proposal to build castles against the O'Tooles; 'Puck Castle in Ruines' on Rocque's 1762 map. Traditions that James II sheltered here in 1690 and that Jane Sherrard vanished nearby in 1867 are unverified local lore.
