Rathmichael early church site (church, round tower stump, enclosure)
Ecclesiastical site / national monument
Ruined church within a large stone-and-earth enclosure (c. 130 m across per the SMR; Ball gave c. 350 ft) on the east slope of Carrickgollogan. Nave and later chancel survive in part; the stump of a round tower (known locally as 'the Skull Hole') stands beside it. Graveyard holds several 'Rathdown slab' grave-slabs, a holed stone, a bullaun and a granite cross fragment. Dedication is disputed: Mac Táil, Michael the Archangel and St Comgall are all proposed. Prebend of St Patrick's Cathedral before 1227; church out of use after the Commonwealth.
